4X4 self-drive daytrip Sandwich Harbour

Since my wife and kids didn’t experience any of the dune driving we decided to book another small self-drive tour. We found this through Red Dune Safaris. JP gave us a great tour along some historic and scenic sites towards Sandwich Harbour.

After a quick stop for some snacks we went for some dune driving. Even after the five-day trip into the desert, JP could still learn me some tricks. Or was it maybe just a bit more confidense in dune driving.

All in all a great trip with the family.

MEOB dune driving & Fishing trip

I just got back from an amazing trip to MEOB bay. I joined an all-men group. We went into the namid desert at Kanaan, and drove with on overnight stop to Meob bay. The group consisted of 22 afrikaans guys, and me the dutchie.

The driving in the dunes was amazing, and i learned a lot. Which was good, since this was my purpose of the trip.

At Meob bay we all did some fishing. Some more succesfull then others.

Guess who caught the first fish….

After two days of fishing and dune driving, it was time to get back to civilized world. We drove along the beach north towards Walvis Bay. Here you’ll see an export from the tracker that i had on board during this trip.

4X4 dune training Namibia

My family and I(Alexander) are now off to Namibia for a short 4×4 training in the dunes and of course also some safari experience.

I rented a Toyota Landcruiser from Auto Africa in Windhoek. Nice and simular to our own car. Except it’s petrol instead of diesel, and it’s an automatic.

The car is equipped with additional fuel tanks, and camping gear. Suitable for a five-day trip into the dunes/desert

A car is bought

On the internet we found a (almost) ready to rally car. It was at a dealer(RVL Mobility) in Beek en Donk. He also had a bowler, but we liked the Landcruiser more, since they are populair in Afrika, so easier to replair or get parts for.

We had a long talk to Ronald van Loon, the owner. After some negotiation we agreed on a deal. He will prep the car with some last bits and fine-tuning, and then it’s ours.

An idea is born

Sipping a glass of wine in the sun, talking about the past rallies, and idea was born. Lets do it with a car this time.
Tony did the rally already 3 times on a bike. For Alexander it was all new, but a dream for a long time.
Lets do this thing.

A period of investigation/looking for options began...
